A mattress needs to support your body in a neutral position. Your head, shoulders, spine, buttocks and heels should all be supported in proper alignment.

If a mattress is to firm, it will push on pressure points that can take you out of alignment. If it’s too soft, those pressure points won’t have the proper support. Either way, it will be an achy morning. Those with lower back pain should consider a firmer mattress.
